About

Madan Maharjan, Ph.D., currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology and Geography at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke since 2019. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology from Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal, a master’s degree in Hydrogeology from Kent State University in Ohio, USA, and a Ph.D. in Hydrogeology from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV.

Dr. Mahajan’s research focuses on hydrogeology and hydrology, particularly in understanding the impacts of human and climate influences on surface water and groundwater interactions, solute and heat transport in aquifers, and water quality.  His collaborative efforts span across various institutions, including Coastal Carolina University, Utah Valley University, and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Recognized for his contributions, Dr. Maharjan has received several grants, scholarships, and awards in the field of hydrogeology, and he and his students have collectively presented over 30 times at conferences on university, regional, and national levels.

Beyond research, Dr. Maharjan actively engages in teaching natural science courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, demonstrating a commitment to fostering student research experiences through specialized courses and independent studies. He serves as a committee member for the Science Fair Region IV and is dedicated to broadening participation in STEM fields.
