The UNCP regional team, led by Dr. Karen Granger, are full-time employees of the university whose sole job is to support beginning teachers in the region through the three core services of institute, professional development and individualized coaching. Coaches visit teachers face-to-face/virtually a minimum of once per week. The coaching focus at UNCP is "in-the-moment" and "cognitive" coaching with an equity focus in the areas of planning, instruction and assessment. All NC NTSP instruction support coaches at UNCP are licensed in multiple educational content areas and have secured advanced and/or terminal degrees in their fields of expertise. In addition, coaches continue to receive extensive and ongoing training related to instructional coaching, pedagogy and curriculum development. Coaches are trained in virtual coaching through the use of SIBME, an instructional coaching platform for support.
