Experiential Learning Grant Application (No longer accepting applications for the Fall 2023 semester)
This grant is designed to help support students who are participating in experiential learning opportunities and are having issues with one or more of their basic needs.
Experiential learning is an educational approach that emphasizes learning through direct experience and active engagement with the subject matter. It encompasses hands-on activities, real-world applications, and critical reflection that go beyond traditional classroom learning. This experience allows the learner to gain practical knowledge, develop skills, and deepen their understanding through personal involvement and reflection on their experiences. Experiential learning should be clearly structured experience, have clearly defined learning objectives, and provide opportunities for the student to demonstrate learning.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Internships (Paid or Not Paid)
- Micro-internships
- On-going Service-Learning
- Student Employment
- Externships
- Apprenticeships
- On-going Volunteering
- Study-Abroad
- Fellowships
- Clinicals
- Student Teaching
- Field experience
Who's eligible?
Current enrolled and registered UNCP students who are planning or currently involved with an experiential learning opportunity and need support with the any of the following basic needs:
- Transportation
- Food
- Health and Wellness
- Childcare
- Housing
- Technology

What do I need to apply?
Failure to provide adequate documentation may result in your application being delayed or denied. To apply for the grant, you will need to provide the following:
- Location/Site of experiential learning opportunity
- Proof of participation (i.e. internship offer letter)
- Site supervisor’s contact information
- Start and end dates
- Demonstration or explanation of unmet basic need related to food, housing, transportation, child care, technology, or health care/wellness
