UNC Pembroke inducted 55 adult and nontraditional students to the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society–the largest class in more than a decade.
A virtual induction ceremony was held on March 23.
LeAnn Strickland Melvin, assistant director of Academic Outreach served as the keynote speaker. Melvin shared her story of transferring to UNCP and overcoming many obstacles as an adult and nontraditional student. Sharon Blue, coordinator of New Student Orientation, serves as the advisor for the organization.
Alpha Sigma Lambda is devoted to the advancement of scholarship and recognition of nontraditional students continuing their education. Alpha Sigma Lambda is the oldest and largest, chapter-based honor society for full- and part-time students. Its purpose is to provide an association that recognizes academically outstanding adult students in higher education who come together to celebrate scholarship and leadership. This society is a nonprofit organization devoted to the advancement of scholarship and leadership.
Alpha Sigma Lambda desires of its members a continuing effort to cultivate the important qualities of leadership–a sense of purpose, enthusiasm, energy, integrity, decisiveness and technical mastery.
New Student Programs supports Alpha Sigma Lambda in the Center for Student Success. Their mission is to serve as a campus leader in facilitating a supportive transition process for students to create a foundation of success at UNCP.
