Each year Sigma Tau Delta, the National English Honor Society, hosts a national convention for members to meet, interact and learn from each other. This year, four members from UNC-Pembroke joined their ranks.
During the 3 day conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Sigma Tau Delta Members attended panels, read their own works, and interacted with other English students from around the country.
Each student took something different away from the experience. Senior Tonia Thompson stated that she “enjoyed getting to see what other chapters were doing or had done to promote their chapter on and off campus. Also, the roundtable with NCTE members gave me several ideas on how to prepare for a teaching career,” and junior Angela Baker also praised “the opportunity to speak and network with seasoned professionals on my field of study (teaching secondary english education) and obtain knowledge from them of the various strategies that have been proven to work within the classroom.” For senior Morgan Feltz, “the best part of the convention for me was presenting my poetry to peers that also take their craft seriously and taking part in the follow-up Q&A.”
