UNCP's emergency alert systems will be tested on September 17.

UNC Pembroke’s emergency alert systems will be tested at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 17. The test is conducted to ensure the systems operate properly and increase campus familiarity with emergency processes.

This will only be a test. No action is required.

During the test, the university’s emergency siren will be activated. The siren will consist of a 24-second tone followed by the message: “This is a TEST of the UNCP Emergency Notification System. NO ACTION IS NEEDED. In a real emergency, this message will contain important alert information. This is only a TEST.”

UNCP will also activate its BraveAlert text, email and phone alert system as part of this test. Individuals who have their cell phones registered should receive a text message and a phone call indicating that this is a test of the emergency notification system.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to check and/or update their cell phone numbers in BraveWeb before Tuesday’s test. Employees will only receive text messages in the case of a life-threatening emergency or during a test of the Emergency Notification System.

Follow these steps:

  1. Sign into UNC Pembroke BraveWeb

  2. Click “Sign up for Emergency Text Messages” from the menu

  3. Click “Add a Cell Phone Number”

  4. Enter your cell phone number and click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page.

This is also a good time to download the LiveSafe App.

The BraveAlert emergency notification system will be activated during major emergencies to provide life-saving instructions and vital information to the UNCP community.  When the emergency siren is activated, follow the instructions that are provided. When the emergency ends, the tones again indicate an “All Clear.”

Campus community members are encouraged to avoid making phone calls or sending texts during emergencies to avoid unnecessarily delaying essential communications. Also, individuals should not respond to the text message.

The university will continue to relay critical information during an emergency, using multiple channels to reach students, faculty, staff, visitors, local residents and the public. These channels include email, text, web, social media and LiveSafe. The manner of notification will depend on the nature of the emergency.
