In consideration of available weather information and the safety of our students, faculty, and staff, the university will remain in Condition 2—Reduced Operations status through 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, gjven the potential for freezing on secondary roads overnight. Normal operations will resume at 10 a.m., with classes starting at 11 a.m.
Students
Students are responsible for being aware of course attendance requirements and should notify their professor or instructor as soon as possible if they are unable to attend due to weather conditions. Please review your course syllabi for attendance policies and check BraveMail and Canvas regularly for updates from your professors/instructors.
Employees
Under Condition 2, the university will remain open with limited operations and only mandatory employees must report to or remain at work as directed. Leave must be used for any missed work time. Please refer to the UNCP Adverse Weather Policy for additional details.

Based on current road conditions and forecasted continued freezing temperatures, the university will remain in a Condition 1—Reduced Operations status today through 12:15 p.m. and then transition to a Condition 2 status until further notice. All Wednesday classes are canceled.
The university will provide the next weather no later than 9 p.m. unless changing conditions require an earlier announcement.
Employees
In a Condition 1 status, mandatory employees must report to or remain at work as directed unless otherwise notified. Non-mandatory employees may leave early, arrive late, or not report with timely notice to their supervisor. Employees should use leave if they are not working. Please refer to the UNCP Adverse Weather Policy for additional details.
In a Condition 2 status, the university will remain open on a limited basis but suspend all but mandatory operations due to minimal staffing levels. Employees designated or temporarily assigned as mandatory must report to work or remain at work as directed; all other employees may not report to work or must leave the workplace when this status takes effect.Employees must use leave for any work time missed.
Supervisors are strongly encouraged to use discretion, erring on the side of safety, in working with employees regarding travel and safety concerns.
Dining, Events and Resources
Due to reduced operations, schedule adjustments have been made to dining services, events and other campus resources.
- Both the men’s and women’s basketball games have been postponed.
- The dining hall will be open. Please check the schedule for other on-campus dining options before heading out.
- The Campbell Wellness Center will be open. Please check their website for any schedule changes.
- The Mary Livermore Library is currently open; however, hours may be adjusted. Visit their website for more information.
All members of the campus community are encouraged to stay indoors as much as possible during the cold weather, venturing outdoors only when necessary. If you do need to go outside, dress warmly in layers and use caution, especially on steps and stairwells, as they may be slippery due to snow and ice. Facilities staff treated sidewalks and passageways, but please remain vigilant and take care while walking on campus.

A massive cold front is expected to move into the area today, resulting in temperatures in the teens, frigid wind chills, and possibly snowy conditions late this evening. Based on this morning’s updates from the National Weather Service, the university will transition to a Condition 1—Reduced Operations status at 5:15 p.m., today and remain at Condition 1 through noon, Wednesday, Jan. 22, unless changing conditions require an earlier notification.
All classes after 5 p.m. today through noon, Wednesday, Jan. 22, are canceled.
What this means for students:
