Today, the University of North Carolina is launching a new logo and identity for the System and two of its newest initiatives: NC Promise and UNC Lab Schools. In addition, UNC General Administration will be renamed to better recognize its role: the University of North Carolina System Office.
The new logo celebrates the storied history of the state and the breadth and depth of the System by drawing on the colors and images of the state flag and using 17 lines to create the state’s silhouette. With this new look and unified message, the UNC System will honor the successes of our students, faculty, and alumni and expand educational access for every North Carolinian.
“The University of North Carolina System is known nationally and internationally as a world-class teaching and research enterprise. Our 17 institutions, individually remarkable and collectively extraordinary, are empowering students, driving innovation, and enriching the communities around them,” said UNC System President Margaret Spellings. “We have long delivered transformative results for our state and its citizens, but we can do more to harness our institutions’ individual voices and strengths to speak and work together in pursuit of our shared goals.”
System institutions include Appalachian State University, East Carolina University, Elizabeth City State University, Fayetteville State University, NC A&T State University, NC Central University, NC State University, UNC Asheville, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, UNC Pembroke, UNC Wilmington, UNC School of the Arts, Western Carolina University, Winston-Salem State University and the NC School of Science and Mathematics.
Under this new banner, these 17 institutions are tackling challenges too complex and addressing needs too urgent to be solved by any one institution alone. Together, these institutions are serving North Carolinians of all backgrounds, from Cullowhee to Elizabeth City and every community in between.
“A strong System means our institutions can focus on their core mission: providing North Carolinians the full promise higher education holds,” said President Spellings. “This is a new look for a new era of higher expectations from our students, taxpayers and nation.”
