Allergy Immunotherapy

Allergy Injection Patients:

Student Health Services (SHS) is pleased to administer allergy injections to our students who are under an immunotherapy regimen prescribed by their private physician. Appointments can be made by calling 910.521.6219 or by walk-in availability. Allergy injections are given 8:30 am-11:30 am and 1:00 pm-4:00 pm M-F. **Please note that this is a continuation of care and you must receive your first injection of new at your allergist’s office.

  • To receive your injections at SHS, you are required to complete and submit an annual ALLERGY INJECTION PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT PACKET. 
    • Please review the Allergy Injection Participation Agreement prior to receiving an injection at SHS. If you agree to the terms of this agreement, please print and sign your name. If you have questions about this contract, these terms will be reviewed during your first allergy clinic visit.
    • Letter to the Physician and Physician Order for Allergy Immunotherapy: These are to be completed by the prescribing physician. After we receive your physician’s instructions and the 2 completed forms from above, we can continue the administration of your allergy injection at Student Health Services.

Self-check in is available at the patient kiosk desk once you have arrived.

General Information
  • If your allergist requires you to pre-medicate before your injection and you have not done so, YOU WILL NEED TO RESCHEDULE.
  • You are required to have an EpiPen®with you when you come for an injection as a safety precaution. Also, please follow any additional instructions from your allergist physician (e.g. pre-medication with anti-histamine).
  • You must have injection site(s) checked by a nurse 30 minutes after injection. There are no exceptions to this policy. You must wait inside the Student Health Services building during your wait time. FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THIS SAFETY PROTOCOL WILL RESULT IN TERMINATION OF ALLERGY INJECTIONS AT STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES.

While waiting to have the injection checked, notify the nurse if you experience any of the following:

  • runny nose
  • wheezing
  • sneezing
  • itching
  • flushing
  • hives
  • shortness of breath
  • facial swelling
  • coughing
  • anxiety
  • pins and needles sensation of the skin
  • nasal congestion

 

  • Before leaving Student Health Services, please go to the receptionist’s desk to check out.

Questionnaire

A pre-therapy questionnaire will be completed at each visit before any allergy injection is given.
