Tax Workshops
Attend a Tax Workshop sponsored by OGE and the UNCP Payroll Office for information on how to correctly file your taxes!
These workshops do not apply to students who have been in the U.S. on an F-1 or J-1 visa for more than 5 years or to J-1 non-students who have been in the U.S. more than 2 years.
Understanding taxes is a specialized area of knowledge and we are not tax filing professionals, keep in mind we cannot prepare or review your returns.
Commonly Asked Questions regarding Taxes:
Do International Students Have to File a Tax Return?
Received no income (i.e. wages, stipends, awards/prizes)? Yes - According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), all international students and scholars on F or J visas must file Form 8843, even if they do not earn an income while studying in the United States. File Form 8843.
Form 8843 is not a tax return itself, but rather an informational statement that establishes the student's exempt status as a non-resident alien for tax purposes.
Received income (i.e. wages, stipends, awards/prizes)? Yes, you must file a full tax return.
