Winter Weather Advisory

UPDATED: 1/20/25 at 8:30 p.m. UNCP administrators are closely monitoring updates from the National Weather Service about a cold front arriving tomorrow, Jan. 21. Forecasts predict temperatures in the teens and frigid wind chills, with little to no wintry precipitation expected in our area. At this time, the university plans to operate on a normal schedule. About

A native of Rockingham, NC, Dr. Elisabeth B. Harrell is an accomplished educator with over 26 years of experience in education. She holds a BA in Elementary Education from North Carolina Central University, an MS in Instructional Technology from North Carolina A&T State University, an MSA in School Administration, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Curriculum & Instruction from UNC Wilmington.  Dr. Harrell holds additional licensure in Math and ELA for Grades 6-12 and is National Board Certified.

Prior to joining the faculty at UNC Pembroke, Dr. Harrell served as an Elementary and Middle School Teacher for 18 years, an assistant principal for 3 years and the founding principal of a primary school for 5 years.  Dr. Harrell has completed a year-long professional development for Distinguished Leadership in Practice, sponsored by NC Principals & Assistant Principals Association (NCPAPA) & NC Alliance for School Leadership Development (NCASLD). This extensive training provided in depth, real-world applications for the each of the NC principal evaluation standards and challenged principals to think critically about distinguished leadership practices.

Her years of service in Title I schools have undergirded her research focuses on self-care and support for school administrators. Dr. Harrell is an active member of the NCAE, Delta Kappa Gamma Women’s Educational Society, NCCU Sandhills Alumni and her local church.

In her free time, Dr. Harrell enjoys gardening, photography and creative activities.
