About

Dr. Emilia Bak comes to UNCP from Georgia. She graduated with a Ph.D. in mass communication in 2013 from the University of Georgia in Athens where she also completed her M.A. and B.A. She teaches courses primarily in the department’s public relations track.  She is a member of the university's Enrollment Management Subcommittee.

With her love of writing, an interest in new technology, and a deep enthusiasm for history, mass communication was a field that allowed Dr. Bak to explore all of her research interests. Her dissertation explored brides in American mass media from the 19th century through the beginning of the 21st century. The first chapter won her a top student paper award and was published in Journalism History. Emilia also earned a graduate certificate in women’s studies while at UGA.

After completing her doctorate, Emilia worked as a media coordinator for a small business in Atlanta. She developed and managed the business’s social media presence while performing marketing and public relations duties.
