About
Gabriel Eszterhas, CPA, joined UNC Pembroke as the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration in May 2022 with over 20 years of experience in higher education. Most recently he served as Senior Associate Dean for Finance, IT and Simulation at Florida Atlantic University’s College of Medicine. Previously, he served as Associate Vice President and Controller at the University of Miami (UM), where he was responsible for the university’s financial reporting, general and fixed asset accounting, tax compliance and accounts payable. Other positions in higher education include Director of Budget for UM’s Miller School of Medicine, Assistant Vice President for the FIU Foundation, Vice President for Administration & Finance at Baruch College (CUNY) and the Baruch College Fund (501c3), and three director-level positions at New York University. Prior to higher education, he worked in New York City municipal government. A veteran of Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, Mr. Eszterhas began his professional life as an active duty infantry officer and finished his service as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve. His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, Ranger Tab, and Basic Parachutist, Air Assault and Combat Infantryman’s Badges. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from City College of the City University New York (CUNY), a Master of Arts in history from Columbia University, a Master of Business Administration in finance from New York University, and a Master of Arts in accounting from Florida Atlantic University.
