About

Joseph Turner is a versatile drummer, percussionist, and educator based in North Carolina. He has performed and toured extensively throughout the eastern US, including at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Beacon Theater in New York, The Orpheum Theater in Boston, The House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, and The Corning Museum of Glass. Joe's recent performance affiliations have included the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, Western Piedmont Symphony, the UNCG Latin Jazz Ensemble, the Endless Mountain Music Festival Orchestra (where he was also a featured soloist), Hanson's Live Orchestra, and Roger Daltry's Live Orchestra, and several jazz combos, among others. He has also performed alongside world-class musicians like Bram Wijnands, David Grossman, members of Bang On A Can All-Stars, and Quey Percussion Duo.
 
As an educator, Joe has presented master classes at universities including UNC Pembroke, Tennessee Tech University, UNC Greensboro, and the University of Hartford. With over 10 years of teaching experience, he has instructed private lessons in drumset, marching percussion, orchestral percussion, and world percussion to students of all ages. Joe is currently a Teaching Assistant and DMA candidate at UNC Greensboro, and also teaches at the North Carolina School of Percussion, UNC Pembroke, and is on the marching band staff at High Point University. He has previously taught at Lock Haven University and served as a drumline instructor at Shippensburg University. Joe has also directed percussion ensembles and marching percussion sections at several high schools, including Bristol Eastern High School in Bristol, CT, where the newly-formed percussion ensemble received the award for "Best Ensemble Performance" in the state in its inaugural year.
 
Joe holds degrees in percussion performance from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford and in music business from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. His applied professors have included Dr. Eric Willie, Brevan Hampden, John Amira, Marcus Kreiger, Joe Galeota, Ted Piltzecker, Rogerio Boccato, Conrad Alexander, and Dr. Adam Brennan. Joe has been published in the peer-reviewed journal Percussive Notes and is the owner of Eastern Hill Music. He proudly endorses Vic Firth Sticks & Mallets and Zildjian Cymbals as an education artist.
