About

Neveen Issa is originally from Egypt and currently lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. She graduated in the spring of 2018 with degrees in biology and chemistry. During her time at UNCP Neveen maintained a high-grade point average, which enabled her to become a member of the Beta Beta Beta Honors Biology Club (Tri Beta), a Chancellors Ambassador, and a member of Alpha Chi. She conducted research for a year and half and presented this research at several conferences. Neveen appreciated having a good environment to surround herself with and seeing other honors students succeed as well. She enjoyed taking honors seminars and the relationships she made with faculty through these seminars.

Neveen’s senior project was about global health, comparing the rate of diabetes in Middle Eastern and Western countries. She focused on the food they eat and their lifestyle and the percent of people who have diabetes in those countries. She constructed this as a service-learning project where she raised awareness about healthy eating and how to live healthy lifestyles.

After graduation she attended medical school. She advises honors students to be engaged and to find a good mentor to help guide them throughout their time at UNCP. Neveen had so many great opportunities and enjoyed all of them. Some of the memories that she is most fond of were attending the various conferences to present her research, being a Chancellors Ambassador, and studying abroad in South Korea at the University of Seoul.
