Autoclave Safety

Autoclaving is the most effective and reliable means of sterilizing laboratory materials. Autoclaving sterilizes materials using saturated steam under pressure. Due to the use of pressure, stream, and high temperatures, there is a significant risk of injury. Individuals need to be properly trained in operational procedures.

Autoclaves are to be used to sterilize equipment/products before use in an experiment or to render items non-infectious before disposal.
