This is our first week of service of the year in honor and remembrance of the events that occurred on September 11, 2001. This week of service is scheduled during the week of 9/11. You can find all volunteer opportunities and events related to 9/11 Week of Service at serve.uncp.edu/9-11/.

According to the Corporation for National & Community Service, "September 11th is Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. On this day, Americans across the country are called to volunteer in their local communities in tribute to the individuals lost and injured in the attacks, first responders, and the many who have risen in service to defend freedom."

We host this annual Day of Service every year on MLK Day, January 18th. You can find all volunteer opportunities and events related to MLK day of service at serve.uncp.edu/mlk/.

“After a long struggle, legislation was signed in 1983 creating a federal holiday marking the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with leading this effort. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.” – Corporation for National & Community Service

We host this annual Day of Service on the first Saturday of April to celebrate the meaning of being a community! Community partners are selected to assist with large scale service projects, events, or special programs.
