IV. Transfer Students

Upon admission to UNCP and the Department of Music, transfer students from North Carolina Community College, Four-Year Public, or Four-Year Independent music programs are guaranteed the transfer of course-equivalent credits for the following courses where the student earned a C or better:

·       Theory I and Theory II

·       Aural Skills I and Aural Skills II

·       Class Piano I and Class Piano II

·       Applied Music I–III*

·       Ensemble**

Students who wish to transfer Theory III/IV and Aural Skills III/IV will be required to pass a placement test. All transfer students will take a music theory and aural skills assessment. This assessment is for advising purposes only. It does not dictate the transfer of credits.

*Students who transfer three lower-division applied lessons at two credits each may enroll in upper-division (3000-level) lessons and must pass Evaluation Forum[1] at the end of their first semester to continue enrolling in upper-division lessons. Students who transfer fewer than three lower-division applied lessons may enroll in upper-division lessons after transferring/completing six credit hours of lower-division lessons and passing Evaluation Forum.

**Students may transfer up to four semesters of ensembles but are expected to be enrolled in their designated major ensemble during each semester in which they are enrolled in private lessons at UNCP.
