UPDATED: 1/21/25 at 9:45 a.m. UNCP officials met this morning to assess conditions and updates from the National Weather Service and have determined the university will operate on a normal schedule through 5:15 p.m. today and then transition to a Condition 1—Reduced Operations status through noon, Wednesday, Jan. 22. About

Teagan Decker is a professor of English and the dean of the Esther G. Maynor Honors College at the University of North Carolina, Pembroke. After graduating with a BA in literature and an MA in teaching writing from Humboldt State University (California), she earned a PhD in language and rhetoric from the University of Washington (Seattle), where she also directed the English department writing center. At UNC Pembroke, she directed the writing center from 2007-2015 and served as assistant dean to the honors college from 2015-2020. She teaches courses in composition and the humanities as well as courses in rhetoric at the graduate level. Dr. Decker has presented several conference papers on service-learning and works to promote community-oriented education in her own classes and across campus. Her most recent publication, "Embracing New Opportunities in and Beyond First-Year Composition," appeared in the journal Honors in Practice in 2022.
