UNCP moves to condition 2 Jan. 30 - Feb. 1

Based on National Weather Service winter weather advisories, UNCP will move to Condition 2 beginning at 8 p.m. today, Jan. 30, through 11:59 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 1.
Current forecasts indicate that central North Carolina could receive 6 to 10 inches of snow beginning Saturday, Jan. 31. Extremely cold temperatures and gusty winds are expected, with wind chill values near zero degrees, which may prevent frozen precipitation from melting quickly.
The Institutional Threat Assessment Committee (ITAC) will convene again on Sunday to reassess conditions and determine next steps. An updated campus message will be shared on Sunday by 4 p.m. with information regarding the university’s operational status for Monday.
Condition 2 Overview
In Condition 2 status, the university remains open on a limited basis and suspends all but mandatory operations due to staffing constraints. Employees designated or temporarily assigned as mandatory must report to work or remain at work as directed by their supervisor. All other employees should not report to work. Supervisors are encouraged to use discretion and prioritize safety when addressing employee travel or work-related concerns.
Dining, Facilities and Campus Resources for Residential Students
To support on-campus residential students during this period, the following facilities will remain open with adjusted hours:
- Dining services will be open during regular operating hours.
-
Starbuck’s will be open Saturday from 8 a.m.- 1 p.m.
-
Chick-fil-A will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- The HawksNest will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
- The Campbell Wellness Center and Jones Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday.
- The Mary Livermore Library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
On-campus residential students are encouraged to remain indoors as much as possible due the extremely cold temperatures. If heading outdoors to enjoy the winter weather, students should wear warm layers, use caution and limit travel. Driving in snowy conditions is discouraged. When walking, take care on steps, sidewalks and stairwells, which may be slippery. Facilities staff have been salting high-traffic areas, but icy conditions may persist.
Updates
Updates will be posted to UNCP.edu, the BraveAlert page and shared through the university’s official social media channels. In the event of university-level closures or cancellations, BraveAlert text notifications will be deployed.
Please continue to monitor official university communications for the most up-to-date information.
As we navigate this winter weather event, UNCP’s first and foremost consideration is your safety. Whether travel is work-related or personal, please use caution and exercise your best judgment to protect yourself and others.
