UNCP professor, alumna named as 2022 AASHE Sustainability Award finalists
UNC Pembroke professor Scott Hicks and alumna Olivia Sadler are finalists for a 2022 AASHE Sustainability Award recognizing outstanding scholarship in higher education. The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) announced that “A Survey of Environmental Attitudes and Knowledge of University Undergraduate Students for the Purpose of Faculty Development in Teaching and Learning for Sustainability” is among the finalists in the Campus Sustainability Research category.
Shelley, Wiatrowski named 2021 Maynor Scholars
De’Maurion Shelley and Nina Wiatrowski have been named the 2021 Maynor Honors College scholars at UNC Pembroke. Recognized as UNCP’s most prestigious four-year scholarship, the Maynor Honors Scholarship pays tuition, fees, books, room and board. It is named for Esther Graham Maynor, a Pembroke native and one of the university’s most generous donors. Shelley, a freshman from Fayetteville studying history and social studies education, credits his former teachers with influencing his decision to pursue a career in the classroom.
Rawan Abumohsen accepted into optometry program at Salus University
Rawan Abumohsen, a Fall 2020 graduate of UNCP, has been accepted into Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. Abumohsen, who earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, was an active member of several academic organizations including the Maynor Honors College, Alpha Chi National Honors Society, Muslim Students Association, Health Careers Club and Student Honors Council, where she served as president.
