UNCP pair admitted to School of Veterinary Medicine at NC State
Alexis High is one step closer to fulfilling her dream of becoming a veterinarian. High will become the first graduate of UNCP’s Veterinary Education Access Scholars Program, a pathway initiative formed four years ago granting a select number of biology students guaranteed acceptance into N.C. State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine program. She is on track to complete her biology degree in May and begin the veterinary program this summer.

Alumnus Justin Villanueva admitted to pharmacy program at UNC Chapel Hill
Justin Villanueva, a recent UNC Pembroke graduate, has been accepted into the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Villanueva earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in Fall 2020. He credits UNCP’s small, rigorous classes and outstanding professors for “igniting the spark of flame” within him to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
Alumnus Phoenix Locklear accepted into Physician Assistant program at Methodist University
Phoenix Two Feathers Locklear, a Fall 2020 graduate, has been accepted into the Physician Assistant program at Methodist University. During his time at UNCP, Locklear was heavily involved in the Health Careers Access Program (HCAP) designed to increase the number of minorities who are trained, educated and employed in the health profession. He served as HCAP co-vice president. A first-generation college student from Pembroke, Locklear earned a degree in biology with a focus on DNA synthesis. He graduated with cum laude honors.
Double Take: Locklear twins share love for their alma mater
UNC Pembroke Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings and platform guests were forced to do a double-take as identical twins Kelsey and Kyria Locklear crossed the stage, receiving matching degrees during Fall Commencement. The Locklear twins have caused people to see double their whole lives, from their childhood years in Red Springs on the softball diamond in high school and throughout their time pursuing degrees in exercise and sport science at UNCP.
