Four UNC Pembroke undergraduates presented research posters during a regional conference — the 84th Annual Meeting of the Association of Southeastern Biologists (ASB).

UNCP biology students recognized at international conference

Three biology students at UNC Pembroke were recognized for their independent research at the joint annual meeting of the Entomological Society of America, Entomological Society of Canada, and Entomological Society of British Columbia. The conference was held at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, November 13-16. The theme for the event was ‘Entomology as Inspiration: Insects through art, science, and culture.’

Biology Students win Awards for Presentations at International Conference

Students Kinsley Adams (Biology, Senior), Erika Rivera (Environmental Science, Junior), and Hunter Ivey (Biology, Sophomore) traveled to Vancouver, Canada, to present their independent research at the Joint Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America, Entomological Society of Canada, and Entomological Society of British Columbia in November 2022. This was the first time any of the students had presented their work at a major conference, let alone an international conference.

Volleyball team honors Biology faculty trio

Biology faculty Crystal Walline, Meg Zets, and Nicolas Negrin Pereira are making a big difference in the classroom. Last fall, student athletes in their classes honored them during the UNCP volleyball team’s Faculty and Staff Appreciation night. The September 28th event recognized 15 faculty and staff across the campus who made positive impacts on the lives of student athletes. Students who bestowed certificates of appreciation on Biology faculty were Taylor Osborne (Dr. Walline), Abby ("Abigail") Spencer (Prof. Zets), and Kaitlyn Pressley (Dr. Negrin Pereira).
