UNCP School of Education secures $1.1M grant to train American Indian educators
The UNC Pembroke School of Education has been awarded a five-year, $1.1 million federal grant to increase the number of highly qualified American Indian teachers committed to serving American Indian communities. The grant will support the First Americans’ Teacher Education (FATE) program, a pre-service training project for teachers. The FATE program provides financial support for future educators by reducing financial barriers and increasing enrollment and retention.
UNCP, Robeson Community College partnership strengthens teacher pipeline
A new partnership between UNC Pembroke and Robeson Community College (RCC) will create a seamless path for aspiring teachers to become part of the state’s teacher pipeline. The initiative is designed to recruit teachers who have a desire to serve their communities. Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings and RCC President Melissa Singler launched the Brave Educator Grow Your Own Initiative during a signing event at RCC on June 24.
UNCP School of Education host collaborative meeting with county school leaders
Mental health strategies, NC Math 1 and discussion of creating a teacher assistant to teacher pipeline were among the topics discussed during a collaborative planning meeting with leaders from the School of Education at UNC Pembroke and Public Schools of Robeson County. UNCP launches teaching pathway program with Montgomery Community College, Montgomery County Schools
UNC Pembroke recently signed an articulation agreement with Montgomery Community College providing a seamless pathway for aspiring teachers to complete their four-year teaching degree. The collaboration is designed to increase the recruitment and retention of highly qualified teachers and administrators in Montgomery County. The new program involves a partnership with Montgomery County Schools.
UNCP School of Education welcomes new advisory board members
Scotland County schools superintendent Takeda LeGrand has been elected chair of the School of Education Advisory Board at UNC Pembroke. Dr. LeGrand was among the new officers seated during last week’s meeting. Cumberland County Schools Superintendent Marvin Connelly was elected vice chair and Anita Alpenfels, executive officer for Human Resources with Moore County Schools, will serve as board secretary. Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings and Interim Provost Zoe Locklear were present to greet board members.
Two graduate counseling programs earn re-accreditation
UNC Pembroke has been granted extension of accreditation of two of its graduate counseling programs. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Professional School Counseling programs received accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Both programs received an eight-year extension through March 2029. Both programs offer a hybrid approach to course delivery which combines face-to-face classroom instruction with online activities.
