Dr. Cherry Maynor Beasley of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke received the 2022 James E. Holshouser Award for Excellence in Public Service during Thursday’s meeting of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors. The award honors faculty who exemplify the University’s commitment to service and community engagement.
Dr. Robinson awarded counselor educator excellence award
Dr. Stephanie Robinson, an assistant professor in the Department of Counseling at UNC Pembroke, has been awarded the 2023 Addictions/Offender Counselor Educator Excellence Award.
UNCP dedicates Student Commons in honor of Dr. Ben Hardin
Dr. Ben Hardin was a Pembroke native and a trailblazer who left an indelible mark on Robeson County through his decades of practice as a physician. A 1965 graduate of Pembroke State College, Hardin was the first American Indian student to attend medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He mentored countless students, especially Native Americans, who dreamed of an education and giving back to their communities.
UNCP earns cybersecurity designation from the National Security Agency
The National Security Agency (NSA) — the nation’s leading cybersecurity agency — has designated UNC Pembroke as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD). The CAE-CD designation is awarded to regionally accredited academic institutions offering cybersecurity degrees or certificates at the associate, bachelor’s and graduate levels.
UNCP alumna earns national credential in play therapy
Denise Bostick-Fairley, a member of the inaugural class of the play therapy graduate certificate program in the Department of Counseling at UNC Pembroke, has earned the Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential from the Association for Play Therapy.
Brewington, Fox named Maynor Honors Scholars
Justus Brewington and Riley Fox exemplify all the qualities that UNC Pembroke values in the Esther G. Maynor Honors College, which is designed to attract top students. They are both well-rounded student scholars, highly driven and community focused. Fox, a student-athlete, not only excels in the classroom but on the field as a member of the softball team.
